Cumbo Gunnerah was the legendary warrior and wise leader of the Gunn-e-darr people of the Gomeroi (Kamilaroi) tribe.
A memorial to Cumbo Gunnerah is located at the front entrance to the State Office Block in Abbott Street, 15 metres from his final resting place. As well, the Cumbo Gunnerah Museum in the Red Chief Local Aboriginal Land Council holds a significant collection of stone artefacts, carved trees, weapons, and utensils.
